When constructing the CHICAGO Central House, we follow requirements of fire safety. An alarm signal system, safe elevators, automatic systems of fire suppression and smoke exhaust – everything is envisaged for residents of the residential complex and office employees to be protected in the event of fire.

 

Where in the building a fire suppression system will be implemented?

In the residential complex CHICAGO Central House, a fire alarm system is installed in entryway of apartments, in exit corridors and elevator halls. An alarm system is envisaged in office premises and the electric control room in the basement. An automatic fire alarms react on focal points of fire and transmits the alarm signal to the fire alarm control panel located in the building hall close to the workplace of a concierge manager.

Residents and office employees could be able to inform about fire by themselves, by pressing the alarm button in hose reel extinguishers or using the manual call point, which will be located in the hall.

 

How will an evacuation notice be carried out?

Entryways of apartments and integrated premises of the CHICAGO Central House will be equipped with a sound and light alarm system for timely evacuation of residents and office employees. The alarm system is automatically activated from the alarm sound, generated by the fire alarm control panel.

Since the shared front door of the CHICAGO Central House will be equipped with the alarm system, when a fire alarm signal is transmitted, they automatically unblock for a further evacuation of residents. A separate stairway and an emergency exit are envisaged for the residential and commercial parts of the building.

 

Whether the building will have automatic fire suppression systems?

Gaseous fire suppression systems with a fire extinguishing gas are used for fire suppression. These systems are equipped on walls of the engine room of the goods elevator, which is used to transport fire brigades.

 

In order to ensure safety for residents and office employees, a car park and the ground floor to fourth one are equipped with the water sprinkler systems. The automatic water-based fire-suppression system ensures efficient suppression of fire without a human involvement. At a high temperature, a water seal falls away and provides water supply to the seat of the fire. According to statistics, sprinkler-based fire suppression ensures suppression of fire with one sprinkler operating in 10-40% fires. Up to 80% fires are successfully suppressed by turning on up to 10 valves on a large territory. These data show a high efficiency of this type system, fully automatic mode and fault-free operation regardless of being tapped into a power line.

 

Is there a lightning protection system and how does it work?

Taking into consideration the height of the CHICAGO Central House, a lightning protection system consists of a lightning protection grid of zinc-coated steel wire and a vertical lightning conductor.

All equipment on the building roof will be protected with lightning conductors depending on types and dimensions of these objects by application of a protection angle method. Metal parts of equipment and metal staircases, which will also be placed on the roof, will be bound to the lightning conductor. Steel conductors will be placed on perimeter of external walls and corners of the building as well.

 

How do elevators work in the event of fire?

When a fire alarm signal has been transmitted, all elevators stop working and go down to the ground floor. Only after leave passengers the elevators, they block for a further work.

In the event of fire, goods elevators operate in a firefighter’s service mode.

 

Whether a smoke exhaust system is envisaged in the CHICAGO Central House?

Yes, the CHICAGO Central House will be equipped with a smoke exhaust system, consisting of the following parts:

  • ● a mechanical smoke exhaust system is envisaged in the corridor of each floor;
  • ● mechanical pressurisation with atmospheric air will be placed in elevators shafts and halls.

Upon a fire signal by the fire alarm system, the turning off of the general ventilation system is envisaged.
